Macro-photography suggestion. Put your object inside the lampshade and take a photos. The lampshade will difuse the light evenly around small object and give a bright, white background for your image.
For small objects in close up, go to thrift shop or a hardware store and get a freaking huge lamp shade. Cut a hole in the lampshade for your camera lens and point some cheap flood lights [home depot again] at it about spaced evenly around the lampshade.
